Flyback transformers can accommodate a wide range of input voltages; however, they have some limitations. For those applications that have relatively small tolerances of input voltages such as the 48 Vdc bus, Push-Pull transformers have certain advantages such as approximately twice the power handling capability for the same size of the flyback. The small filter input chokes attenuate the output ripple current allowing the use of less expensive capacitors with lower ripple current ratings. The Push-Pull transformers can also provide much larger power ratings with less EMI and very good efficiency.
For smaller filter input chokes with closed magnetic circuits to minimize EMI, consider MCE’s OEDL series EP Core Chokes and EF30TL Toroidal Chokes.
