In addition to classical flyback transformer designs, MCE has developed high reliability designs using sine wave converters and magnetic amplifiers. These have significantly fewer components, usually 12 – 14. In addition, no heat sinks nor fans are required. Regulation is achieved with output voltage feedback directly to a Zener diode. If a short circuit or very high load current occurs, the sine wave transistors just stop switching.
